Syracuse, NY - Women's Basketball hosted the annual Winter Classic in the SRC Arena with matchups against No. 9 Community College of Rhode Island and No. 10 Owens Community College.
The Lazers took the court against the CCRI Knights on Saturday at 1pm. OCC entered the half with a slight edge over the Knights 35-29. The Knights outscored the Lazers 25-16 in the 3rd quarter entering the 4th trailing by 3. Hot shooting late in the game gave the Lazers the edge. A 3-pointer from
Brianna Weaver closed the gap with 4:56 remaining tying it up 62-62. A
Sarah Hirschler three with 3:34 remaining tie it up again 66-66.Â
Amiya Johnson gave the Lazers the lead at 2:29 with a 3 from the top of the key. A freethrow from
Isabella Shenandoah-Kurtz increased the Lazers lead to 71-67. Two more from Hirschler sealed the deal securing the 73-67 win over the Knights. Leading scorers for the Lazers were

The Lazers tipped off against the Owens Express at 1pm on Sunday for a tight matchup from start to finish and a halftime score of 36-36. Forcing it down to the wire, the Lazers had a 1-point lead with 9.4 remaining in the 4th with possession to Owens. The Express was able to reclaim the lead with 3.4 remaining on the clock. A timeout called by the Lazers gave head coach
Kelly Seibt a chance to draw up a game winning play. With tight pressure put on by Owens, the Lazers were unable to get up the shot they wanted resulting in a 71-70 final score for the Lazers first loss of the season.
Sarah Hirschler led all scorers with a career high 20 points.
Kathryn Grainger had her first season double-double with 19 points and 14 rebounds.Â
The Lazers are back at it this Wednesday, November 13th at 7:00pm at Tompkins-Cortland Community College to take on the Panthers.
