Syracuse, NY - Onondaga's Volleyball season ended last night in Allyn Hall after a heartbreaking loss to Monroe Community College in a nothing short of thrilling match. No. 8 Onondaga hosted Monroe as the No. 9 seed. The Lazers took a devastating 2 sets to 3 loss in the 5th with a 16-14 final.
The very even matchup began with a 25-22 win in set 1 for the Lazers. Monroe had an answer in set 2 with the same 25-22 victory to force a 4th set. The Lazers, hungry to advance, took the win in set 3, 25-17. Monroe had another answer, forcing a 5th set, with a 25-15 victory in the 4th after the Lazers briefly lost their groove.
With a potential season end in sight, took the first point of the set on an ace from
Alexsis Knox. The Lazers had strong leads putting them in a great spot to run away with the match. Leading 13-10, the Tribunes scraped together 3 points, tying it up 13-13 forcing Head Coach Joe Brainerd to take a timeout. The Lazers took the edge after a
Shelby Jock kill making it match point. After a long rally and a huge dig from
Nevaeh Baker, the Tribunes came out with the point tying it all up at 14. The Lazers then found themselves on the other end and down 15-14 and the match on the line. Unable to return the Monroe serve, the Lazers suffered the season ending loss with a 16-14 final score in the 5th set.
Kara Stephens finished with 16 digs and 10 kills in the match finishing with 155 on the season,
Alexsis Knox had 27 assists and 395 on the season.
Nevaeh Baker had 12 digs finishing with 195 on the season.
Shelby Jock had 9 kills in the match and 120 on the season.
Onondaga finishes their season with a 9-12 overall record.
