Syracuse, NY - The No. 2 Lazers hosted the No. 7 Hudson Valley Vikings in the semifinal round of the Region III Tournament. The Lazers took their second victory over the Vikings this season advancing them to the North B District Championship.
The Lazers were hungry from the start and took a very early lead thanks to as
Brenna Mast finding the foot of
Ellysia Germain on a deep assist from the corner just three minutes into the first half. The Lazers second goal came from
Briana Dorrance on a perfectly placed free kick shot just out of reach of the Vikings goalkeeper putting them up 2-0 with 6:03 remaining in the first half.
The entire duration of the second half was scoreless but got chippy as time dwindled down resulting in three yellow cards for Hudson Valley and a red card ejection for OCC's
Juliana Elberson with 3:36 remaining. The Vikings couldn't capitalize on a man up opportunity resulting in a 2-0 final score and advancing the Lazers to the next round. Goalkeeper
Geona Wood had 6 saves in goal awarding Onondaga their 9th shutout of the season.
The Lazers will face the North Country Community College Saints in the North B District Championship at Genesee Community College this Saturday, October 26th at 6:30pm. Onondaga hosted the Saints in their first match of the season resulting in a 2-0 win. A victory will send them to the National Tournament for the second consecutive year, also to take place at Genesee Community College.
