Syracuse, NY - The No. 8 men's soccer program took on the No. 3 Herkimer Generals under the lights at Lazer Stadium with a packed house on Wednesday night.
The Lazers entered the contest with an overall record of 5-0-1 and the Generals came in at 4-0.
The matchup lived up to the hype with an even momentum between the two teams and a long, physical game with 7 yellow cards issued. Lazer cards were issued to
Jordan Williams,
Kyle Partington,
Samuel Gregson, and
Jack Hopson. The first half resulted in a 0-0 score with neither team's offense able to execute on scoring opportunities.
With 14 more minutes of defense-dominating, scoreless soccer, the Generals capitalized on an opportunity putting one in the net for the 0-1 lead over the Lazers. With plenty of time to close the deficit, the Lazers defense remained solid but couldn't produce a goal in the remainder of the half, falling 0-1 for their first loss of the season. Freshman Goalkeeper,
Jordan Williams had 6 saves in the contest.
The men will look for redemption this Sunday, September 24th against the Jefferson Cannoneers following the women's 1pm start on Wilbur Field.
