Baseball Rounds Out Regular Season with Series Against TC3

The Baseball program swept Tompkins Cortland Community College on Saturday for a double header at home for their final home contests of the year. The Lazers traveled South on Sunday to even out the score getting swept by the Panthers in their final two regular season contests.

Syracuse, NY - Game 1 resulted in a final score of 13-3 in 6 innings over the Panthers. Carlos Fantauzzi and Jack Scanlon each had three hits to contribute to the 10-run deficit over TC3. Fantauzzi, Kyle Wood, and Jon Gonzalez-Perez had two RBIs each. Mike Benedetto had three stolen bases adding to his total fourteen on the season. Onondaga's defense was led by Carter King starting on the mound and taking the win with three strikeouts.

The Lazer bats fell flat in game 2 with a base hit each from Wood, Fantauzzi, and Jake Khouri for the only hits in game 2. But Dylan Swartwood took care of business the mound in Game 2 pitching five innings with six strikeouts on the Panthers. With Onondaga leading 3-2, Matt Carner came in relief in the 5th shutting down the Panthers with three strikeouts to secure Onondaga's second victory 3-2.

Dryden, NY - Onondaga looked for two more wins against the Panthers on Sunday, this time on the visiting side. The Lazers were unable to get their offense going until the 6th inning with hits from Gonzalez-Perez and an RBI from Matt Carner put them on the board. But it wouldn't be enough to make up for TC3's 3-run inning in the 5th. Onondaga fell 6-2 in game 1.

The bats didn't pick up in game 2. Fanatuzzi and Wood stayed consistent throughout the series with the Lazers' only hits in game 2 along with Ray Moreno's hit single. Wyatt Braun held the mound until the 5th inning allowing just three hits and seven strikeouts when Austin Alberici came in for relief. Alberici allowed the Panthers' final run in the 6th for a 0-3 loss for the Lazers.

Onondaga finishes the regular season with an 18-22 overall record and are ranked No. 5 in the Western Division. The Lazers are looking for a shot to get to the 2023 Region III Championship taking place in Auburn, NY after the sub-regional round on May 13-14.
