Syracuse, NY - The Baseball team hosted the Niagara County Thunderwolves (26-5) and the Erie Kats (21-18) this week after a full week off due to a cancelation.
Thursday kicked off with a 3pm start time for game 1 against Niagara. The week off showed for Onondaga's lack of offensive ability. The Lazers were held to 3 base hits from
Tyler Campbell,
Carlos Fantauzzi, and
Joey Case. Case's base hit scored Fantauzzi for Onondaga's lone run of game 1.
Wyatt Braun's performance on the mound couldn't make up for Onondaga's lack of hitting. Braun took the loss finishing with 1 strikeout and giving up 7 hits. The Lazers took the loss in game 1 with a 1-6 final.
The Lazers had a turnaround in game 2 starting to figure out the Niagara pitching.
Tyler Campbell,
Jonathan Gonzalez-Perez,
Matt Carner, and
Jake Zawadzki had 2 hits each to manufacture 4 runs in the 2nd inning. But it wouldn't be enough to match Niagara's two 3-run innings. Onondaga fell just short in game 2 defeated 5-7.
Jack Knapp took the loss on the mound.
Onondaga looked to turn it around on Sunday against Erie. The two teams battled it out with a 0-0 score in the 6th inning behind
Mason Sands on the mound. Erie scored two runs in the top of the inning to take the lead. With chances to produce runs of their own, the Lazers couldn't manufacture and were defeated 0-2.
Carlos Fantauzzi went 3-3 from the plate. Sands pitched the complete game to take the loss.
With a nearly identical start in game 2 of the day, Erie was up to the plate with a 0-0 score in the top of the 5th. Putting up three runs, the Lazers found themselves trailing the Kats again and unable to score a run of their own. Due to the 5th inning, the Lazers fell in game 2 with a 0-3 final.
Mike Benedetto had two hits and
Matt Carner had one of his own for the only Lazer hits in game 2.
Eric Korzeniewski took the loss on the mound and finished with 4 strikeouts.
The Lazers will look to redeem themselves as they will travel to Niagara and Erie this week for a rematch.
