Syracuse, NY - The Women's Lacrosse team hosted the North Country Community College Saints yesterday after a tough weekend loss to Anne Arundel. The Lazers had no problem bouncing back defeating the Saints 18-0 regardless of leading scorer,
Jadie Burns, out due to a hamstring injury.
The Lazers kept their legs moving nonstop to fight the brisk 38-degree wind and put up 9 goals on the Saints in the first quarter.
Gabriella Smart and
Isabella Commesso each had 2 and Commesso also with 2 assists.
Macey DeOrdio added two of her own on another assist from Commesso in the 2nd quarter. Thanks to
Giuliana Portolesi's brick wall presence in goal, Onondaga lead 13-0 at half.
Portolesi's limitless skill of the game allowed Coach
Erik Mattox to let her loose from goal and score the Lazer's second goal of the half.
Tala Rudd took over the task in goal with 3 saves of her own and continuing to hold the Saints scoreless. The Lazers finished the 3rd quarter leading 17-0 with goals from
Alecsis Buda,
Raychel Underwood, and
Isabella Commesso's third of the game. Three wouldn't be enough for Commesso as she found net in the fourth quarter for the Lazer's final goal clinching the victory 18-0. Commesso's 4 goals and 4 assists secured her career high 8 points in a game.
Onondaga's dominant performance helped several members earn a spot on the 2023 MSAC All-Conference Women's Lacrosse Team including:
Giuliana Portolesi
Isabella Commesso
Gabriella Smart
Macey DeOrdio
Raychel Underwood
Victoria Storrs
Jadie Burns
The women will travel to Rochester this weekend to face the No. 2 ranked Monroe Tribunes on Saturday, April 22nd at 12pm.
