Syracuse, NY- The Lazers dropped two close contests over the weekend against Region 3 opponents. On Saturday, a late rally came up just short in a 94-102 loss against Mohawk Valley. The Lazers were on the wrong side of a back-and-forth contest on Sunday against Hudson Valley, falling 81-93.
A bad shooting half put the Lazers behind quickly against the Hawks going into halftime down 29-47. The second half was most of the same until the Lazers made a run late in the second half cutting the lead down to four with a few minutes left. The Hawks held on to secure the victory. Will Scanlon put up a season-high 33 points while shooting 53% from three-point range.
On Sunday, the Lazers recognized their four sophomores:
Jaylen Warmack,
Aiden Retzos,
Isaiah Warmack, and
Will D'Agostino. The Lazers and Vikings had a back-and-forth contest filled with several lead changes. The Lazers held a 74-71 lead down the stretch before a 22-7 run by the Vikings crushed the Lazers hope.
Jaylen Warmack led the Lazers with 24 points, seven rebounds, and eight assists.
Aiden Retzos added 20 points while shooting 50% from three.
The Lazers will look to bounce back on Wednesday, February 8th against Jefferson. The last matchup was a close contest that the Cannoneers won 72-70.
