Syracuse, NY - The men hosted the Lakers of Finger Lakes for a thrilling matchup. The men came out with the 73-71 win over the Lakers and their first conference win.
The Lazers were hot to start with shots falling beyond the arc from
William Scanlon,
Gage Kielmann,
Seth Myles,
Alex Pagan, and three from
Noah Armstrong with 8 threes for the Lazers in the first half. The Lazers would trail by no more than 3 in the first half with only 3 lead changes. OCC entered halftime with a 40-34 lead.
The men's ability to hold onto the lead for the entire duration of the second half would earn them the win. After a constant momentum shifting 20 minutes and Lazers leading by 3 with 11.7 seconds remaining, a the Lakers scored their final point at the free throw line and would get the ball right back after a Lazer turnover and have the chance to tie it up or lead on an inbounds play under their own hoop. A Lazer foul would send the Lakers to the line to shoot 1-and-1 for another chance to tie. Missing the first and regained by Onondaga, a final timeout was called to give the Lazers' head Coach Joe Hulbert to write up a play to safely secure the ball in-bounds and hold it for the 7.6 seconds remaining. Inbounded by
LaMar Matthews and off the hands of
Anthony Brooks, the Lakers had a steal and put up two desperation shots to tie but could not come away with a basket before time run out. A review and foul call by the officials would not be in time as the Lazers walked away taking the thrilling win.
Noah Armstrong led all scorers with 17 points and 3 assists.
Alex Pagan had 4 three's for the Lazers alongside
LaMar Matthews also with 12 points.
The men return to Allyn Hall tomorrow, November 15th for anothe conference matchup against SUNY Broome at 6pm.Â
