Batavia, NY - The women's soccer team made program history this weekend where they were titled Region 3b Champions for a spot in the 2023 National Tournament in Gastonia, NC.
The Lazers were hungry for this win right from kickoff scoring in the first minute of the game with Tournament MVP
Harmony Russell's first goal of the day with the assist from
Brenna Mast and setting the tone very early on. The No. 2 Herkimer Generals had a quick response to the Lazer goal tying it up 1-1 in the first 5 minutes. With
Harmony Russell's dominant performance in the first half, she earned the Lazers a big-time lead over the Generals 3-1 scoring all three goals. The Generals managed to cut Onondaga's lead to 1 with a goal in the 33rd minute off a corner kick and entering the half 3-2.
The Lazers' first half performance would earn them the win as the second half remained scoreless for both teams. Regardless of a second half red card ejection that left the Lazers' a man down for 40 minutes, the defense held the Generals to their 2 goals and secured the 3-2 win to advance to Nationals for the very first time.
