Syracuse, NY- The Lazers battled it out in a doubleheader matchup against Tompkins Cortland Community College Panthers at the Onondaga Baseball Complex Thursday evening. The Lazers defense held firm to win both games and stretch their record to 14-5.
In game one, the Lazers were led by sophomore
Jack Knapp on the mound. Knapp earned his second win after pitching six innings and facing 22 batters. He had two walks, eight strikeouts, and gave up four hits for no runs through six innings. Freshman
Rolland Balcerzak took the mound in the seventh inning and earned his second save of the season. At the plate, the Lazers were led by sophomore third baseman
Garrett Stuckey and freshman second baseman
Kolby Gidcumb. In three at-bats Stuckey had a single and a triple for one run and RBI. Gidcumb had a single and a double for two runs in three at-bats. The Lazers defeated the Panthers 4-1.
In game two, Freshman starting pitcher
Jimmy Scherer stayed strong through six innings only giving up one run to earn his second win of the season on the mound. Scherer faced 23 batters, struck out ten, walked two, and gave up one hit. Sophomore
Devin Rooney would then take the mound in the seventh inning earning his first save of the season. Rooney had three strikeouts after facing three batters. The Lazers were led offensively by sophomore third baseman
Garrett Stuckey. In three plate appearances Stuckey had a single and a two-run homerun. The Lazers defeated the Panthers 3-1.
The Lazers will travel to Dryden, NY to take on the Panthers in another doubleheader matchup Saturday, April 16
th at 1:00 pm in hopes to sweep the Panthers this season.
