Lazers Finish 7th in the National Championship Tournament

Rockford, IL-After a terrific regular season the Lazers advanced to the NJCAA Division III National Tournament where they finished in 7th place.

The Lazers opened up the tournament with a 76-62 victory over Monroe-Bronx Community College. After a back and forth first half the Lazers exploded for 48 points in the 2nd half to secure the victory. Latyce Faison and Jakhi Lucas led the Lazers with 26 and 20 points respectively. Lucas also added 8 steals during the game. Gop Arop and Clinton Obi controlled the paint with 3 blocks apiece. 

In the Elite 8 the Lazers fell late to the eventual champions of Dallas-North Lake 69-73. Latyce led the Lazers with 25 points and 4 steals. In the consolation game the Lazers lost another heartbreaker in overtime to Riverland Community College. Faison again led the Lazers with 34 points and 7 steals. Lucas added 26 points and 9 assists. Jared Sammon and Clinton Obi both had double-double performances. 

Latyce Faison earned a spot on the All-Tournament team averaging 28.3 points and 4 steals while shooting 43% from the field. 

The Lazers finish the season with a 26-5 record and  its first NCAA Championship Tournament appearance since 1993.
