Lazers Fall to Niagara in OT

The Onondaga men's basketball team fell to Niagara County Community College 92-98 in overtime Wednesday night. With the loss the Lazers move to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in Regional play
 
How it Happened:
Niagara jumped out to a 26-13 lead ten minutes into the first half.  Onondaga trailed by as much as 17 with 4:30 seconds left in the half.  After a 7-0 run by Onondaga, cutting the lead to 10, Qeyion Williams drove to the basket completing a four-point play with 1:30 left. After trading baskets and a late foul with 18 seconds left committed by Antonio Scrimale, the Lazers trailed 37-45 going into halftime. 

Onondaga showed renewed energy at the start of the second half. Niagara came out strong scoring four quick points to extend their lead to 49-37. As the Lazers turned up the energy on defense, their offense fell into a nice rhythm. The Lazers got themselves back in the game sparking a 15-0 run over a three-minute span giving them the lead, 52-49, with 15:00 left in the contest. Over those three minutes,  Qeyion Williams, Isaiah Brinkley, Dennis Jones and Chris Allen all contributed both oh offense and defense. Jones's energy and activity on the glass took the Lazers' play to the next level. The next 15 minutes of play displayed 13 lead changes before Isaiah Brinkley made two free throws with six seconds left to force the game into overtime.
 
Niagara won the tip in overtime to start with possession. The Thunderwolves took the lead with 3:30 left in overtime and never looked back. Niagara continued to slowly add to their lead scoring 6 of their next 16 points from the foul line.

The Lazers were led by exceptional play from Dennis Jones who had 12 points, 8 rebounds and 5 steals in 23 minutes of play before fouling out with 4:10 second left in regulation. Qeyion Williams showed great effort on the defensive end and the ability to finish around the basket as well as on the perimeter. Williams finished with 27 points and 4 assists.
 
The Lazer return to action Sunday when they travel to Hudson, NY to play Columbia-Greene at 1:00pm.
