Box Score Sophomore forwards Samantha Britton (Kenmore West) and Sydni Eure (East Syracuse – Minoa) used their strong inside games to lead the Onondaga Community College women's basketball team (2-0) to a hard fought 70-66 victory over visiting Sullivan Community College (0-2) at Allyn Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.
After jumping out to a 30-16 lead halfway through the second period, the Lazers were able to withstand an 11-2 Generals run on their way to a 32-27 halftime lead. The Lazers margin was cut to 49-48 at the end of the third period and found themselves down by one point with four minutes left in the contest. Two free throws each by Eure, Britton and Rachel Scalisi (Fabius-Pompey) along with key baskets by Britton and Scalisi down the stretch secured the win for Onondaga.
Britton finished with 25 points and 13 rebounds for her first double-double of the season, while Eure contributed 10 points, 10 rebounds, and a team high 5 assists. Guards Payton Noeller (Cato – Meridian) and Shannon Foehl (Skaneateles) each knocked down two 3-pointers, and Danielle Yates (East Syracuse – Minoa) turned in a strong performance off the bench with 8 points. The Lazers were a solid 19 for 22 (86%) from the foul line.
The Lazers will be playing at home again on Sunday, November 5 at 12noon against Hostos Community College – a team that is currently ranked as the #5 team in NJCAA D-III women's basketball.
