Second Half Run Falls Short for Onondaga as Monroe Wins NJCAA Region III Championship, 14-7

Syracuse, N.Y. – Nicole Beatson and Christie Hahn each tallied four points on three goals and one assist to help lead Monroe Community College to its sixth straight NJCAA Region III title over Onondaga Community College Sunday afternoon at David W. Murphy Field.

Monroe opened the games scoring with a goal from Dana Isaacs just 2 minutes and 34 seconds in the game. The Lazers would answer with two goals to take a 2-1 lead. Sophomore attacker Jaycie Annable found the back of the net with 27:31 left to play and then freshman Madison Pritchard drove in front of the goal for a clear shot to make it 2-1 at the 23:42 mark.

The Tribunes would go on a seven goal run to end the half up 8-2. Zoe Hendricks scored a man up goal with help from Hahn at 21:06. Morgan Hollenbeck would follow up Hendricks goal with a tally of her own 17:05 and then Hahn would score her first of three goals at the 14:37 mark. Four minutes later with 10:25 left in the first half, Beatson would score her first of three goals off a free position shot. Devon McKercher would find her way into the scorer's book with a goal of her own with 5:07 left on the clock. Thirty seconds later Beatson would score her second of the game off a feed from McKercher. Hollenbeck would close out Monroe's seven unanswered goals to end the first half with a goal with 46 seconds left.

Out of halftime, the Lazers would go on a 5-2 run to pull within three goals with 13:15 left to play. Annable scored her second of the game just a minute and nine seconds into the second half. Monroe would score back-to-back goals from Elle MacMillan and Beatson making it 10-3 in favor of the Tribunes.

From there, Onondaga would go on a four goal run to pull within three. Pritchard scored a free position goal at the 24:10 mark and sophomore attacker Cheyenne Burnam slipped one past the goalie with help from freshman midfielder Victoria Thompson with 18:44 left to play. Freshman midfielder Nina Schaefer would score her 10th goal of the season at 16:55 as she drove down the right side and found the left side of the net wide open. After a timeout by Onondaga, sophomore attacker Jordan Osborne brought the Lazers to within three (10-7) with a goal of her own with 13:15 left to play.

Over the final thirteen minutes of play, the Tribunes would score four unanswered goals to capture their sixth straight NJCAA Region III title.

Onondaga (12-3) will return to action next weekend at the NJCAA National Championships hosted by Monroe Community College in Rochester, NY.
