Game Recap: Softball |

Softball Sweeps Finger Lakes Community College, 8-0, 7-4, Wins Sixth Straight

Syracuse N.Y. – Sophomore righty Morgan Nichols struck out 10 Sharks in game one to help lead the Onondaga Community College softball team to an 8-0 victory over Finger Lakes Community College Sunday afternoon at the Softball Complex. The Lazers won game two 7-4 to win its sixth straight game and sixteen of their last eighteen games.

Game One: Onondaga 8, Finger Lakes CC 0

In game one, Emily Clapper collected two hits including a double, two RBI's and two runs scored to lead the Lazers eleven hit attack. Lea Newman added three hits and crossed home plate three times, while Caitlin Wormuth, Morgan Neadom, Chelcee Staats, Samantha Moon and Nichols all found their way into the book with hits. Moon and Staats knocked in two RBI's each.   

Nichols (7-4) earned the win for the Lazers tossing a complete game three-hitter.

Game Two: Onondaga 7, Finger Lakes CC 4

In the nightcap, the Lazers scored four runs in the fourth inning to help complete the sweep of Finger Lakes Community College. Jordan Doane collected a team-high three hits, while Neadom and Clapper recorded two hits each. Victoria Duffy, Newman, Staats, Casey Gray, Sierra Keesler and Jess Rodriguez each booked a hit.

Newman and Staats knocked in two RBI's each for the offense

Staats started in the circle going one and two-thirds innings giving up three runs (two earned) on two hits. Duffy followed pitching two and a third innings of one run ball on three hits. Nichols closed the door on the Sharks tossing three innings of scoreless ball, retiring all nine batters she faced (four by strikeout).

Onondaga (21-13) returns to the diamond Tuesday as they play host to Cayuga Community College for a doubleheader set for 4:00 p.m. and 6 p.m.
