Syracuse, NY – Sophomore left fielder John Larca singled home the go-ahead run to lead the Onondaga Community College baseball team to an 8-5 win over Jefferson Community College in game two of the doubleheader at the Baseball Complex Tuesday evening. The Cannoneers picked up a 9-4 win to take game one.

Game One: Jefferson CC 9, Onondaga 4

The Cannoneers scored nine straight runs over the first six innings to take a 9-0 lead into the bottom half of the sixth inning. Leading the Jefferson 18 hit attack with three hits apiece were Michael Espino, Benjamin Godbout and John Andrews. Sophomore second basemen Joel Reynoso would chip in 3 RBI for the Cannoneer offense.

The Lazers would score four runs over the final two innings to close the game at 9-4.

In the bottom of the sixth, Lacra lined a one-out single to center field to fuel the offense. Sophomore second baseman Avery Brooks followed with a triple to right center to plate Larca. Sophomore catcher Paul Fitzgibbons then lined a single to right field scoring Brooks making the score 9-2.

In the Lazer's half of the seventh, freshman center fielder Terry Daniels reached on an error and advanced to second on a passed ball to start the inning. Daniels would steal third and come around to score on an error by the right fielder. Larca would then drive in freshman shortstop Brandon Breen to give the Lazers their fourth and final run of game one.

Sophomore righty Nick Claver (2-1) suffered his first loss of the season on the mound for the Lazers going three and two-thirds innings giving up seven runs (two earned) on nine hits while striking out two. Relievers Brandon Michaud, Cody Mosher and Matt Bolton finished the game on the bump for Onondaga.

Game Two: Onondaga 8, Jefferson CC 5

In the nightcap, the Lazers again fell behind early but mounted a late game comeback to earn the split.

Jefferson posted a run in the first inning and added two more in the third.

The Lazers plated a run each in the bottom half of the second and third innings. In the second inning, Fitzgibbons reached second base on an error by the right fielder and came around to score on a single by freshman first baseman Justin Germain. In the bottom of the third, Larca scored on a groundout by Fitzgibbons to cut the Cannoneers lead to 3-2.

After Jefferson added a run the fifth to make it 4-2, Onondaga would strike for three of their own to take the lead. After walks issued to freshman shortstop Austin Hall and Fitzgibbons, sophomore third baseman Nate Budge lined a two-out triple to left center tying the score 4-4. Budge would then steal home to give the Lazers a 5-4 lead.
