Syracuse N.Y. – Sophomore right fielder Samantha Moon collected four hits and two RBI on the night to lead the Onondaga Community College softball team to a sweep of Genesee Community College, 5-2, 3-2, to open up conference play.
Game One: Onondaga 5, Genesee CC 2
The Lazers fell in an early hole when Genesee scored two runs in the top half of the first. Onondaga quickly answered with four of their own in the bottom half of the first to take a 4-2 lead. Sophomore pitcher Morgan Nichols settled down and went the distance scattering 10 hits while striking out six to earn her second win of the season.
Emily Clapper, Casey Gray and Moon each collected two hits. Nichols, Caitlin Wormuth, Kyra Hunsinger, Chelcee Staats and Jess Rodriguez all registered a hit for the Lazers.
 Game Two: Onondaga 3, Genesee CC 2
In the nightcap, Morgan Neadom collected three hits and Moon put up another two-hit performance to lead the Lazers. Seven Lazers recorded one hit to cap off Onondaga's 12 hit performance. Clapper, Gray, Nichols, Wormuth, Hunsinger, Â Staats and Lea Newman all found their way on base with hits.
Staats (1-2) recorded the win pitching in relief for Nichols. Staats went four and one-third innings surrendering five hits while striking out four and giving up an unearned run.
Onondaga (3-7) returns to the diamond today for a doubleheader against Mercyhurst North East Community College at the Softball Complex starting at 4 p.m.
