The nationally-ranked Onondaga Community College women's lacrosse team will play for the 2015 NJCAA National Championship after defeating third-ranked Harford Community College, 17-8, in the semifinal round of the NJCAA Women's Lacrosse National Championship on Saturday in front of its home crowd at David W. Murphy Field.
With the win, Onondaga, which was seeded third entering the four-team tournament, moves to 14-2 while the Fighting Owls, which had earned the tournament's second seed after capturing the Region XX crown, concludes its season at 10-5.
The Lazers got off to a quick start and never looked back, scoring six unanswered goals in the game's first 10 minutes before the Fighting Owls could end the drought with its first goal at 16:43 of the first half.
Harford's goal did little to slow the Lazers' momentum, however, as Onondaga would score six more goals including a pair from
Jordan Osborne before a final second goal by the Owls made it 12-2 at the half.
Coming out of the break,
Makenzie Annable and Osborne paired for three more goals in the first eight minutes of the second half to extend Onondaga's advantage to 15-2.
Harford would finally generate some momentum with six of the game's next eight goals, but the deficit was too great to overcome as the Lazers cruised to the nine-goal win.
Osborne scored a game-high six points on five goals and one assist while
Cheyenne Burnam added six points of her own with a pair of goals and a game-high four helpers.Â
Nicole DeVona added a hat trick and two assists and Annable netted three more goals in the win.Â
Megan Fero tallied two goals and an assist for Onondaga while
Kristyn Drake and
Alisia Griffin each scored once.
Sophia Wojnovich earned the win in net and moved to 13-2 on the season after limiting the Owls to five goals. The freshman keeper made three saves in 54 minutes of action.Â
Gretchen Krzykowski also saw time in between the pipes and made one save in six minutes.
The Lazers were the model of accuracy in the game, taking 33 total shots, 30 of which were on goal. Onondaga forced the Owls in 19 turnovers and picked up 13 more groundballs.Â

The No. 2 Lazers will face top-seeded Monroe Community College, which defeated Nassau Community College in the afternoon's other semifinal, at 12 p.m. on Sunday for the NJCAA National Championship at David W. Murphy Field.Â
