The Onondaga Community College men's tennis team extended its winning streak to six matches after earning a pair of shutout wins against Herkimer County Community College on Tuesday in the SRC Arena and Events Center.
With the wins, Onondaga moves to 7-8 on the season while the Generals slip to 0-7.
In the first match, Onondaga earned all nine points.
Matthew McCall posted an 8-3 win at first singles while
Jon VanKouwenberg and
Darren Pikul won their respective flights, 8-0.Â
Vincent Hopkins took fourth singles, 8-2, and
Benjamin Jones earned a point at fifth singles after winning the flight, 8-1.
In doubles play, McCall and VanKouwenberg teamed up for an 8-1 win at first doubles while
Marc Rich and
Carlos Pena-Alicea took second doubles in shutout fashion, 8-0.
In the second match, Onondaga would post nearly identical results, winning 9-0.
McCall nailed down an 8-1 win at first singles while VanKouwenberg and Pikul mirrored their play from the first game as each won, 8-0.
Hopkins and Jones continued their dominance at fourth and fifth singles as each picked up another point apiece.
The Lazers swept play in doubles comeptition with McCall and VanKouwenberg taking first singles while Pena-Alicea and Rich rounded out the scoring at second doubles.
Onondaga will play again at 1 p.m. on Saturday against SUNY Delhi at Santaro Park.
