Makenzie Annable scored a career-high nine goals as the nationally-ranked Onondaga Community College women's lacrosse team scored 19 first half goals en route to a season-high 25 scores in a 25-14 win over third-ranked Howard Community College on Monday evening at David W. Murphy Field.
With the win, Onondaga remains unbeaten at 5-0 while Howard suffered its first loss and moves to 4-1 overall.
Both teams swapped goals in the early going before Onondaga would reel off five unanswered tallies in only four minutes of play including four unassisted goals to take a 7-2 lead.
Howard would cut the deficit to three goals at the 14:07 mark of the first half but Onondaga would put the game away as the half wore on using a 10-4 run to take a 19-9 lead into halftime.
The second half was a back-and-forth affair with Howard scoring three goals in a span of five minutes to make it 21-12, but that was as close as the Dragons would get as four of the game's final six goals belonged to Onondaga.
10 different players scored a point for Onondaga with Annable notching 10 points to lead all scorers.Â
Cheyenne Burnam posted nine points of her own along with six assists, five of which were to Annable.Â
Jordan Osborne had four goals in the win and
Kristyn Drake finished with three points on two goals and one helper.Â
Megan Fero contributed a hat trick along with an assist and a team-high seven draw controls while
Nicole DeVona had four groundballs and three draw controls for Onondaga.Â
Gretchen Krzykowski picked up her first collegiate win after making four saves in net.
As a team, Onondaga enjoyed a 41-24 shot advantage and scooped up twice as many groundballs as the Dragons, 18-9.
Onondaga's next bout will begin at 6 p.m. on Wednesday when it hosts Niagara County Community College.
