The nationally-ranked Onondaga Community College women's lacrosse team battled its way to a 15-11 victory over third-ranked Harford Community College on Friday in Bel-Air, Maryland.
With the win, the Lazers extended their winning-streak to four games and are 4-0 on the season while the Fighting Owls were handed their first loss of the season and fall to 2-1 on the year.
Onondaga came out hot against Harford, establishing a 6-2 lead when
Jordan Osborne scored her first goal of the contest just over 14 minutes into the game. Despite the quick Lazer start, Harford would respond by scoring five straight goals over the course of the final 15 minutes in the half. The spurt would give the Fighting Owls a 7-6 advantage heading into halftime while also marking the first time that Onondaga has trailed in a game all season.
Back-to-back goals from
Alisia Griffin and
Makenzie Annable in the fourth and sixth minutes of the second half gave the lead back to Onondaga at 8-7. The Lazers built their lead to a 12-7 advantage in the 15
th minute when Osborne found the back of the net to give Onondaga its fourth straight goal. The sophomore would go on to finish with two goals on the day.
Harford would not go away lightly however, as it scored four straight goals of its own to cut the Lazer lead to one goal with 10:35 remaining in the game. The Lazers responded as Annable scored with just under seven minutes left to give Onondaga a 13-11 lead. After adding two more goals in the closing minutes, the Lazers would hold on for a 15-11 win over Harford.
Annable led Onondaga with five goals, tying her season-high for goals in a game. The sophomore has now tallied a team-high 15 goals on the year.
Alisia Griffin and
Kristyn Drake also played a key role in the Lazer attack as each player reached a career-high in goals. Griffin finished the game with three goals while Drake totaled four goals in the contest.
Megan Fero also added a score for Onondaga, bringing her season goal total to six.
Sophia Wojnovich was strong in the net for the Lazers as the freshman faced a season high 32 shots and posted a career-high 12 saves.
Onondaga will attempt to push its winning-streak to five games at 2 p.m. on March 28 as it hosts Anne Arundel Community College at David W. Murphy Field.
