Nicole DeVona tied a career-high on Monday with five goals as the nationally-ranked Onondaga Community College women's lacrosse team double up fifth-ranked Nassau Community College, 20-10, in Garden City.
Â
With the win, The Lazers, who entered the contest as the second ranked team in the nation, improve to 2-0 while Nassau drops to 0-1.
Â
Onondaga's defense suffocated Nassau in the first half, limiting it to only three goals as the Lazers built a 15-3 lead after one half of play.
Â
Nassau would find an edge in the second half, outscoring the visitors 7-5, but the damage had been done as Onondaga's early advantage was too much to overcome.
Â
The Lazers received six combined goals from
Makenzie Annable and
Jordan Osborne as each netted three goals apiece.Â
Cheyenne Burnam tallied five points on two goals and three assists while
Kristyn Drake and
Alisia Griffin each found the back of the net twice.
Sophia Wojnovich picked up her second win between the pipes after making six saves in 30 minutes of action.Â
Gretchen Krzykowski also saw time in goal for the Lazers and made three stops.
Â
Onondaga will continue its three-game road trip at 4 p.m. on Tuesday when it takes on Suffolk County Community College in Seldon.
