Cheyenne Burnam scored a game-high 10 points in her first-career game as the nationally-ranked Onondaga Community College women's lacrosse team put up 16 first half goals en route to a 24-2 decision over visiting CCBC-Essex on Saturday at David W. Murphy Field.
With the win, the Lazers, who entered the contest ranked second overall in the nation, move to 1-0 while the Knights remain winless on the season at 0-2.
Onondaga would set the tone early, scoring four goals in the game's first four minutes including three goals from freshman
Jordan Osborne with Burnam notching an assist on each.
CCBC-Essex would get on the board at 13:04 to make it 7-1, but 12 unanswered goals including three marks in a span of three minutes would stake the Lazers to a commanding 19-1 advantage.
The Knights would maintain possession late in the second half, tallying their second and final goal at 24:17, but it was too little, too late as the Lazers closed out the game with five more goals to earn the win.
Burnam scored four goals and recorded a game-high six assists in her debut while Osborne notched five points in the win.Â
Megan Fero scored four goals on seven shots and
Brittany Anderson registered a hat trick to go along with one helper.Â
Nicole DeVona had four points and three draw controls for Onondaga and teammate
Kristyn Drake dished out three assists and collected six draw controls.
Sophia Wojnovich picked up her first-career win in net after making two saves.Â
Gretchen Krzykowski also saw time in between the pipes and made three stops.
As a team, the Lazers enjoyed a 42-12 shot advantage and controlled the turf, picking up 22 ground balls.
The Lazers will return to action at 4 p.m. on Monday when they travel to Garden City to take on fourth-ranked Nassau Community College.
