Box Score The road to Saranac Lake proved successful for the Onondaga Community College women's basketball team on Saturday as the Lazers came away with a hard fought 69-47 win over North Country Community College. The victory avenged last season's regular season loss to the Saints. Onondaga improved to 9-1 while North Country fell to 7-6 for the season.
Onondaga was paced once again by
Melissa Bakowski (West Genesee) with 17 points while
Hope DeFazio (Baldwinsville) and
Samantha Roberts (Cicero - North Syracuse) produced 14 and 12 points respectively.
After getting out to a 25-20 first quarter lead, the Lazers were held to 6 points in the second period but managed to take the lead 31-29 at halftime as
Kumba Marong (Bronx Leadership Academy) scored at the buzzer on a great pass from
Jordan Vaught (Bishop Grimes).
Onondaga switched to a 1-2-2 half court press at the start of the second half that turned the game in their favor. The defense led to steals and transition baskets as the Lazers outscored North Country 18-6 in the third quarter and 38-18 in the second half to seal the victory.
Onondaga travels to Plattsburgh on Sunday to take on Clinton Community College in a 12noon tip-off.
