Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Lazer men overcome 15 point deficit to pick up road win at Schenectady

The Lazer men's basketball team rallied from a 15-point 1st half deficit to pull out a 79-73 win over Schenectady County Community College at the Schenectady YMCA on Saturday afternoon.  Jacob Slobe led Onondaga with 17 points, with 12 coming in the second half.  Kevin DiCola and Steven Dolgos added 12 points each, with Dolgos handing out 5 assists.  The win imrpoved the Lazers' overall record to 3-1 on the season.

Onondaga started quickly, with three-point goals by Dolgos and Zachary Sawyer staking the Lazers to an early 6-0 lead.  The host Royals answered, and a three-pointer by Schenectady's Jordan Devaughn tied things at 6-6 with 16:42 to go in the opening session.

A Slobe three-pointer tied things at 11-11, but the Royals got their transition game in gear and went on a 20-5 run over the next 8 minutes to take a 31-16 lead with 6:51 to go in the first half.

DiCola, Terron Lemons, and Brian Daily then ignited a quick 8-0 Lazer run to pull Onondaga to within 31-24 with 5:25 to go in the half.  The Royals then went on a 6-1 run of their own to build the lead back to 12, but Onondaga held the Royals to one field goal over the final four minutes of the half, and Nikeem Deleon's back to back baskets cut the Schenectady lead to 39-31 at the break.

Onondaga carried that momentum into the second half, as 5 quick points by Slobe ignited an 11-2 start to the half.  A putback basket by Hunter Williams gave the Lazers their first lead since the opening minutes, 42-21, with 15:44 to go.

Two free throws and a field goal by Schenectady's Chanse Watson put the Royals back up 47-44 with 10:24 to go, but a two-pointer and a three-pointer by Slobe put Onondaga back in front, 49-47, with 12:48 to go.  Watson tied it with a pair of free throws, but baskets by Deleon and Lemons put Onondaga back up by 4, 53-49, with 11:16 remaining.

After the teams traded scores, a Kameron DiSanto field goal, two free throws by DiCola, and one free throw by Deleon extended the Onondaga lead to 63-56 with 7:21 left.  The Lazers extended the lead to 8 following a DiSanto score, and DiCola answered a three ball by Schenectady's Juloina Austria with a three of his own to keep the lead at 8, 68-60, with 5:38 left.

Dolgos hit a big three with 2:38 to go to give Onondaga its largest lead, 73-64.  Schenectady was able to close the gap to 4 on 2 occasions, but two free throws each by Sawyer and Dolgos sealed the win for the Lazers.

DiSanto and Jordan Bandera each pulled down 6 rebounds for the Lazers, with Sawyer pulling down 5 boards.  Bandera also handed out 3 assists, second to Dolgos' team leading total of 5.

The Lazers continue their weekend road trip on Sunday afternoon when they take on Fulton-Montgomery Community College.  Tip-off is 3:00 pm in Johnstown.
