The Onondaga Community College men's basketball built a 27-point lead on Thursday evening in Allyn Hall en route to a 97-73 win over Johnson College in the first-ever meeting between the two teams. With the win, Onondaga improves to 12-10 overall while the Jaguars fall to 8-13 on the season.
The Lazers were hot from beyond the arc to start the game, draining four 3-pointers in the game's first five minutes to sprint to a 14-2 lead before the Jaguars would stop the bleeding with a jumper inside the painted area.
The Jaguars would use a 15-4 run to cut Onondaga's lead to one point, 18-17, at the 11 minute mark of the opening stanza and would eventually take a two-point after drilling a pull-up 3-pointer, 29-27.
The lead would only last that possession as the Lazers would reclaim the advantage on its next trip down the floor when
Patrick Twiss found
Michael DeLuca for a corner three ball to give Onondaga the 30-29 advantage.
Onondaga would continue to find its rhythm in the final minutes of the first frame, outscoring the Jaguars 18-6 to hold a 10-point margin, 45-35 at the half.
The Lazers continued to have the hot hand in the second half, building a double-digit lead that would balloon to 17 after an old-fashioned 3-point play from
Kameron DiSanto.
The visiting Jaguars would cut the lead to 15 points, but a 10-0 run that featured back-to-back treys from
Kyle Kline would put the game out of reach as Onondaga would lead by 27 points before a last second heave from Johnson College found Nylon to make it 97-73.
Joseph Piazza led the way for Onondaga after finishing with 21 points on 8-of-17 shooting from the field including five from distance. DiSanto a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds while
Colyn Hanley posted eight points and a game-high 14 boards. Scott added 10 points in the win and
Lloyd Parkmond chipped in with 11 points and eight rebounds.
Trevor Smith filled the box score with six points, five assists and four rebounds.
