Box Score The Onondaga Community College men's soccer team bounced back from two consecutive road losses in a big way, scoring a season-high four goals to defeat Fulton-Montgomery Community College, 4-3, on Saturday at Onondaga's David W. Murphy Field.
With the win, the Lazers even their season record at 2-2, while the Raiders fall to 0-1.
The Raiders would score first, netting the go-ahead goal in the game's sixth minute to hold a 1-0 lead, but the advantage would be short lived, however, as
Werdi Mugaya blasted a shot in the 11th minute from 30 yards out that found the back of the cage to tie the game at 1-1.
The Lazers controlled the tempo for the remainder of the half, booting shot after shot until the 33rd minute when
Jake Mrowinski beat two defenders before finding the foot of
Gerardo Ramirez who booted home the go-ahead goal to make it 2-1 in favor of the home team.
Onondaga continued to apply the pressure in the second half when
Nate Waite rebounded his own shot and lofted the ball in front of an open goal, which
Jarred Hinkson headed in to give the Lazers a two-goal cushion at 3-1.
The duo struck again just four minutes later when Waite found a cutting Hinkson who blasted a shot past the outstretched hands of Fulton-Montgomery's goalie to give Onondaga a 4-1 lead.
The Raiders would make things interesting late in the second stanza, scoring two goals in a span of five minutes to come to within one goal, but that was as close as they would get as the Lazers held on for the 4-3 win.
Jeff Valencia made three saves in the win and picked up his first-career win in the process. Hinkson scored a pair of goals on two shots, while Waite contributed two assists to go along with three shots. Mrowinski collected a game-high nine shots and
Ben Jackson had four.
As a team, Onondaga blasted a season-high 30 shots and held Fulton-Montgomery to only 10 shots.
The Lazers will return to action at 6:45 p.m. on Wednesday when they open Mid-State Athletic Conference play against Cayuga Community College at David W. Murphy Field.
