The Onondaga Community College men's soccer team earned another walk-off victory on Wednesday night after scoring the game-winning goal in the first overtime period to escape with a 2-1 win over visiting Corning Community College.
The win comes on the heels of a final second goal against SUNY ESF on Monday as the lazers are now two games above .500 at 6-4. Corning remains winless and slides to 0-5-1 on the season.
The goal came in the 96th minute when
Romeo Kpolo corralled a Red Baron turnover and found
Joey Amato on the far side who kicked home the game-winner.
Despite being outshot 12-2 in the opening half of play, Corning held a 1-0 lead at halftime courtesy of a goal off a corner kick opportunity in the 18th minute.
The Lazers would remain in a one-goal deficit until the 67th minute when
Jarred Hinkson headed in the game-tying goal on the crossing pass from Amato.
Both teams would battle back-and-forth as time ticked down in the second half. The Lazers controlled the pace of play in the game's final minutes, testing Corning's goaltender with each possession. The Lazers ripped six shots in the final 10 minutes, but couldn't notch the game-winner until Amato's heroics in extra time.
Chris Spaulding earned the win in net for Onondaga to move to his season mark to 4-3. The freshman goalie made one save in all.
The Lazers will return to the field at 1 p.m. on Saturday and will visit Tompkins-Cortland Community College in an MSAC conference game.
