The Onondaga Community College volleyball team saw its season come to an end on Saturday as the Lazers were eliminated from pool play in the opening round of the 2014 NJCAA Region III Championship in Sanborn.
MATCH ONE: Onondaga: 1, Monroe: 2In the opening round of pool play, Onondaga would have its hands full as they took on the nationally-ranked Tribunes to begin the 2014 championship.
After falling in the first two frames by an identical score, 25-16, the Lazers would hand No. 8 Monroe its first set loss of the afternoon, 25-19, but it wouldn't prove to be enough as the Tribunes earned the advantage after posting two wins in three attempts.
Melissa Krak had a team-high 11 kills to go along with six digs and two blocks.Â
Jessica Cost collected 20 assists while
Leslie Santos had 12 digs.
MATCH TWO: Onondaga: 0, Jamestown: 3The Lazers were able to control the pace early, but couldn't overcome a late run as Onondaga would fall to Jamestown 25-20, 25-20, 25-15 en route to a straight-set loss.
For the second consecutive match, Krak reached double-digits in kills with 10 and
Jessica Cost dished out 18 assists. Isabella WInklestine collected four kills while
Najah Amica turned away three attacks.
MATCH THREE: Onondaga: 0, Niagara County: 3In its final match in pool play, Onondaga found itself a 1-0 hole after losing the first set, 25-19. The Lazers would regroup in the second set, however, and nearly evened the contest at one set apiece before the Thunder Wolves would lock down the win, 27-25.
Niagara County would go one to blank the Lazers after stealing the third and final set, 25-20.
Winklestine contributed six kills for Onondaga along with four digs. Cost produced 18 assists while Santos had 14 digs.
The Lazers conclude the 2014 season with a mark of 24-17. Onondaga's six conference wins this season earned it the 2014 Mid-State Athletic Conference's top seed in the 2014 conference tournament, while Krak, Â
Allison Massara and Cost were each named All-Conference.
