Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Eliminated from Region III Championship in Shootout

110 minutes of play wasn't enough to decide a winner on Saturday afternoon as the fifth-seeded Onondaga Community College women's soccer team battled No. 12 Tompkins Cortland Community College in the opening round of the NJCAA Region III Championship at David W. Murphy Field.

After neither team was able to notch the game-winning goal in either overtime period, a shootout would be needed to determine a winner.  As was the case throughout much of the contest, the Lazers and Panthers would remain deadlocked through five rounds until Tompkins Cortland was able to capitalize on the Lazers' miss in the 6th frame, earning the win in the process.

With the loss, Onondaga closes out its 2014 season at 10-6-2, while Tompkins Cortland climbs to 7-8-3 overall and will advance to play fourth-seeded Hudson Valley Community College in the second round of the Region III Championship.

In regulation, the Lazers would end a scoreless drought that lasted nearly 71 minutes when Bridget Field threaded the needle, finding Rachael Gac whose shot skirted past Tompkins Cortland's goalie to give Onondaga the 1-0 advantage.

The lead would be short-lived, however, as the Panthers scored less than two minutes later to knot the game at 1-1.

The goal seemed to re-energize Tompkins Cortland as the visiting Panthers peppered Onondaga goalie, Margaret Choroser, with several shots, but were unable to notch the game-winner before the final horn sounded.

Choroser made five saves overall and closes out her sophomore season with an overall record of 8-6-2.  Field and Gac each took a game-high six shots while Brie Fabrize tallied five.
