Mrowinski Notches Game-Winning Goal in Overtime at Hudson Valley

Jake Mrowinski posted two goals including the game-winning goal in the first overtime period to lift the Onondaga Community College men's soccer team to a 3-2 win over Hudson Valley Community College on Saturday in Troy.

The Lazers, now 11-6 on the season, erased a two-goal deficit in the second half after dominating the ball in the offensive zone.

The Lazers were able to cut the Vikings' lead in half when Gerardo Ramirez found a hole in the defense and beat Hudson Valley's goalie to make it 2-1.  Joey Amato was credited with an assist on the play.

Onondaga would score the equalizer late in the second half when Amato found Mrowinski who blasted a shot into the back of the net to level the score at 2-2.

The Lazers continued to face an uphill climb after a red card in the 75th minute would ensure that Onondaga would play a man down for the remainder of the contest.

As the horn sounded signaling the end of regulation, both teams readied for sudden death overtime.  As it had throughout the second half of play, Onondaga continued to control the pace, despite being outnumbered.  Mrowinski would notch the game-winner in the 95th minute with Amato picking up his third assist of the afternoon.

Jeff Valencia started in goal for Onondaga and made three saves but did not factor in the decision.  Chris Spaulding earned his eighth win of the season after replacing Valencia in the second stanza.  The Baldwinsville native made three stops and held the Vikings scoreless.

Onondaga will return to David W. Murphy Field at 6:45 on Tuesday when it hosts Bryant & Stratton College for Sophomore Night.
