Box Score Watertown, NY - The Onondaga Community College women''s basketball team traveled to Watertown on Thursday night and came home with a hard fought 89-69 win over Jefferson Community College and, in the process, handed the Lady Cannoneers their first Mid-State Athletic Conference loss of the year. The visitors stayed undefeated in the conference (4-0) while running their overall record to 15-4.
The first half of the game was a see-saw battle of the two nationally-ranked teams - with the lead changing hands five times. Jefferson pulled ahead for the last time in the game 31-30 with 4:02 left in the half only to be outscored by the Lady Lazers 12-3 as Onondaga built a 42-34 lead at halftime.
While Onondaga increased the lead to 14 points with 12 minutes left the second half, Jefferson cut the margin to 7 (60-53) with 8 minutes remaining. Once again the Lady Lazers responded to the threat by closing out the game on 29-16 run and the final margin of victory.
Onondaga placed four players in double figures with
Amanda Marcely (Bishop Grimes) scoring a career high 26 points (to go along with a team high 11 rebounds). Bishop Ludden High School teammates
Kayla Kibling and
Lauren Roy had 17 and 16 points respectively while handing out 7 assists each and
Jenn Deuel (Whitesboro) chipped in with 10 points. Alyssa Crosby had 23 points and 15 rebounds for Jefferson while Jasmine Canady had 21 points.
The #2-nationally ranked Lady Lazers will be on the road for a 12noon tilt on Saturday, January 18 against Tompkins Cortland Community College.
