Alisia Griffin (Geneva/Geneva) of the Onondaga Community College women’s basketball team has been named the College’s Female Athlete of the Week after being named the Most Outstanding Player in the 2014 Onondaga Community College Classic in the SRC Arena & Events Center this past weekend.
Griffin led the nationally-ranked Lazers to a 2-0 record in the tournament while tallying 33 points, 11 rebounds, 12 steals, six assists and four blocks over the course of the Lazers’ two games.
The Geneva native started the tournament strong when she scored 12 points on 5-for-8 shooting in an 84-33 first round victory over Delaware County Community College while also contributing five rebounds, five steals and three assists in the contest.
Griffin would go on to turn it up a notch for the Lazers in the championship matchup against Northampton Community College. She shot an efficient 9-for-13 from the field leading to a game-high 21 points. It was on the defensive end however, where she would make her mark in the game. The sophomore led the Lazers in steals with seven, as well as blocks with four. She also contributed six rebounds. Onondaga ultimately defeated Northamption 76-61 to capture its seventh consecutive Onondaga Classic championship.
Griffin and the rest of the women’s basketball team will return to action at 6 p.m. on Thursday when they host Genesee Community College in Allyn Hall.
