Onondaga Resumes Hall of Fame with Five Class of 2026 Inductees

Syracuse, NY - The Onondaga Community College Athletic Department is proud to announce its' Hall of Fame Class of 2026, honoring the exceptional achievements and transformative impact on the community of five selected individuals.

The Onondaga Hall of Fame commenced in 2004 and continued until 2011 before a fifteen year hiatus.

"I'm excited to reintroduce the Hall of Fame and to celebrate all the great accomplishments of former Lazers! There is so much rich history and so many success stories that need to be celebrated throughout our community. This year's class is full of talented, dedicated, and transformative players and coaches who helped change programs and set current teams on their current championship trajectories." The induction ceremony will take place on Monday, April 27th, 2026 in the SRC Arena, in conjunction with the annual Athletic Department Student-Athlete Awards Banquet.

"We look forward to exposing our current student-athletes to some of OCC's greatest who will hopefully leave them inspired to meet or beat those great accomplishments. It will be a fun night celebrating some of the greatest to ever put on a Lazer uniform or coach from our sidelines." Mike Borsz

Onondaga Hall of Fame

The class features two former coaches and three student-athletes: Chuck Wilbur, Sid Smith, Cody Jamieson, Mike Wheeler, and Brittany Cohen.

 

Hall of Fame Class of 2026 - Chuck Wilbur

Chuck Wilbur

Chuck Wilbur was hired as Head Coach of the Men's Lacrosse program in 2001. He led the Lazers to their first National Championship in 2006, defeating Suffolk County Community College, 30-6, the most goals ever scored in an NJCAA title game. Wilbur proceeded to lead the Lazers to 10 more national titles, 11 in total, all within 13 seasons.

In Wilbur's 17 seasons at OCC, he compiled a record of 266 wins and 15 losses (.947). In addition, he has won 14 consecutive Region III Championships, 17 consecutive Mid-State Athletic Conference Championships, and guided the Lazers to the longest win streak in college lacrosse history at 107 games (March 30, 2010 to March 5, 2016). He is a 7x NJCAA Lacrosse Coaches Association National Coach of the Year, 8x Region 3 Coach of the Year, and 7x Mid-State Athletic Conference Coach of the Year. In June of 2017, after Wilbur earned his 10th national title, the Board of Trustees voted to rename the David W. Murphy Field at Lazer Stadium to the Charles "Chuck" R. Wilbur Field. He was inducted into the NJCAA Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 2019 and awarded the NJCAA Coaches Legacy Award in February of 2025, which recognizes the all-time winningest coaches in NJCAA history. 

Wilbur currently heads the Boys Varsity Lacrosse program at Cicero North Syracuse High School. Since his first season in 2022, he has coached the Northstars to four consecutive Section 3 semifinal appearances, and had 11 players named to the All-CNY team.


Hall of Fame Class of 2026 - Sid Smith

Sid Smith

Sid Smith was the captain of the 2006 Men's Lacrosse team, the first squad to win a Men's Lacrosse title at Onondaga. The '06 squad was inducted into Onondaga's Hall of Fame in 2011. Smith anchored the Lazer defense that allowed just 4.4 goals per game. He was named to the NJCAA All-Tournament team, named First Team All-American, and secured Region 3 and Mid-State Athletic Conference titles.

Smith continued his collegiate career at Syracuse University in 2008, earning USILA Honorable Mention All-American in his first season and a spot on the NCAA All-Tournament team. The Orange earned their most recent NCAA title in 2009, where Smith recorded the ground ball to set up the winning goal in overtime against Cornell. Smith and the rest of the Orange defense ranked 4th in the nation tallying a 7.38 goals against average, the lowest since 1970. He was awarded Second Team All-American for the '09 season.

Smith was a member of the Haudenosaunee National team in 2006 competing at the International Lacrosse Federation Indoor Championship. He competed again in 2014, taking Bronze in the World Championships with wins over England, Japan, Australia, and the United States.

His career in the Ontario Junior Lacrosse League included a Minto Cup appearance in 2006 where he was awarded the Jim Bishop Memorial Award as the Tournament's Most Sportsmanlike Player. Winning the title in the following year, he received the John 'Gus' Memorial Trophy as the league's Defender of the Year as well as the Dean McLeod Award as the League Playoff's Most Valuable Player.

Smith was the No. 1 National Lacrosse League draft pick in 2009, selected by the Rochester Knighthawks, winning three league titles as captain of the 2013 and 2014 Championship teams.


Hall of Fame Class of 2026 - Cody Jamieson

Cody Jamieson

Cody Jamieson played his first lacrosse season at Onondaga in 2006, as a standout member of the programs' first National Championship team. Jamieson earned himself Second Team All-American status, First Team All-Conference, Region 3 Tournament MVP, and the NJCAA Final Four Offensive MVP. He ranked second in the NJCAA his Freshman season with a total of 57 goals, 64 assists, and 121 single-season points. He was named team captain in the 2007 season, leading the Lazers to their second straight NJCAA title. His Sophomore season accolades included First Team All-American, Region 3 Player of the Year, and Mid-State Athletic Conference Player of the Year. Jamieson tallied 9 goals in the title game as part of his single season total of 65 goals, 51 assists, and 116 points, first in the NJCAA. His career at Onondaga consisted of an astounding 33 wins and 0 losses. He was named the David Rowlands Male Student-Athlete of the Year for 2006-07.

Jamieson's collegiate career continued at Syracuse University in 2009, where he scored the winning goal in the NCAA Championship in overtime over Cornell, earning himself another National title and a spot on the NCAA All-Tournament team. In his senior season, he was named USILA Honorable Mention All-American, All-BIG EAST First Team, BIG EAST Honor Roll, featured as BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week, and Big City Classic Player of the Game vs Princeton.

Jamieson competed for the Haudenosaunee National team in 2014 in the World Championships, taking victories over England, Japan, Australia, and the United States to earn Bronze. 

Jamieson anchored the Six Nations Arrows Express in the Ontario Junior A Lacrosse League in 2007 and 2008 as the Minto Cup Championship MVP and given the Tom Longboat Award as Canadian Aboriginal Athlete of the Year. In '08 he was named NLL Insider's Junior Player of the Year, Major Series Lacrosse's Most Valuable Player, and League Rookie of the Year.

Cody Jamieson was the No. 1 selection in the 2010 NLL Draft, picked to the Rochester Knighthawks, with whom he competed from 2011-2019. With the Knighthawks, Jamieson was a 3x League Champion, First Team All-League selection, 3x Second Team, 3x Offensive MVP, back-to-back Championship MVP, NLL All-Rookie, Rookie of the Month, Rookie of the Year, 2014 League MVP, and recorded 281 goals (3rd in history), 482 assists (2nd in history), and 763 total points (3rd in history). Jamieson has been with the Halifax Thunderbirds since 2019 as the third all-time leading goal scorer, second assist leader, and third in points in franchise history. 

Hall of Fame Class of 2026 - Mike Wheeler

Mike Wheeler

Mike Wheeler was hired to Onondaga's athletic department in 2001 as head of the Women's Basketball program. During his 2001-2020 tenure, he compiled an overall record of 509 wins and 128 losses (.799), making him the 23rd winningest coach in NJCAA Division III history.

Wheeler led the Lazers to the NJCAA Tournament 5 times, with their first appearance in the 2008-09 season. The Lazers appeared in the NJCAA title game the following year as the No. 1 seed, falling in the Championship as their only loss of the season, finishing 35-1. Wheeler and two of his players were recognized by the Syracuse Sports Corporation in the following May, receiving the the Believe to Achieve Award sponsored by OCC and the Pen and Trophy Center. The Lazers tallied 3 Final Four appearances, 5 Region 3 Championships, 9 consecutive MSAC Championships, and a 106 MSAC game win streak under Wheeler. He is a 4x National District A Coach of the Year, 4x Region 3 Coach of the Year, and 7x MSAC Coach of the Year.

Stepping down in 2020, Wheeler resumed his coaching career at Liverpool High School. Taking over the Girls' Varsity program in 2022-23, he led the Legends to a sectional title in his first season and two more to follow for three straight section 3 titles. The Legends finished as state champion runner-ups in the 2023-24 and 2024-25 seasons. Wheeler is a 2x All-CNY Coach of the Year and coached the All-CNY Player of the Year in 2023-24 and All-CNY Player of the Year finalists in 2022-23 and 2024-25.


Hall of Fame Class of 2026 - Brittany Cohen

Brittany Cohen

Brittany Cohen led the 2010 Onondaga Women's Basketball team to a National Championship Runner-Up finish to cap off a 35-1 season. Cohen was named Third Team All-American, First Team All-Region, and First Team All-Conference. The 2010 Lazers went 14-0 in the Mid-State Athletic Conference defeating opponents by an average of 26.9 points. Cohen was a standout force in the MSAC as the tournament MVP, averaging 15.8 points per game in conference play (4th in MSAC), 6.0 assists per game (1st in MSAC), recorded a 45% field goal percentage (5th in MSAC), a 43.6% 3-point percentage (1st in MSAC), and 75% freethrow percentage (5th in MSAC). After the 2010 season, she was recognized by the Syracuse Sports Corporation in the following May, receiving the the Believe to Achieve Award sponsored by OCC and the Pen and Trophy Center. 

After Onondaga, Cohen transferred to SUNY Cortland where she continued her basketball career. She was a 2x SUNYAC Player of the Year and WBCA Honorable Mention All-American averaging 15.3 points and 6.1 assists per game. She holds the record for 7th highest career freethrow percentage as well as 8th in career assists in program history.

Cohen began her coaching career at LeMoyne College in 2012 as a graduate assistant of the Women's Basketball program. She returned to her alma mater, Jamesville-Dewitt High School, in the 2013-14 season as an assistant to help lead the varsity girls program to 22-3. She was the head assistant at Nazareth University the following year before joining the Dallas Mavericks in 2015 as a member of the player development staff. In 2016, she was hired as the Head Women's Basketball Coach at SUNY Potsdam, where she most recently concluded her 10th season with the Bears.
