Utica, NY - The men traveled to D'Alessandro Stadium at Proctor High School last night to face the Nationally ranked No. 5 Mohawk Valley Hawks at 6:30pm. This long, hard-fought battle ended against Onondaga's favor with a 1-2 defeat.
The Hawks were first on the board scoring in the 13th minute of the contest and another in the 21st, up 2-0 on the Lazers in the first half. This would be the third game in a row that Onondaga has trailed first, but been able to come back and take the victories. Trailing this time against the Hawks, the Lazers stayed up and had to get something going. They did just that with an answer in the 29th minute on their first goal from
Tyler Wavercak to
Samuel Gregson to slim the margin and enter halftime 2-1. The two teams had very even scoring opportunities in the first half.
For the first seven minutes of the second half, Onondaga seemed to maintain more possession control. But unable to score in these possessions, the next 40 minutes resulted an even, extensively long, scoreless half and forcing Onondaga to pay for the Hawks strong start to the game. A Mohawk Valley yellow card with 24 seconds remaining gave the Lazers one last chance to tie it up, but they were unable to capitalize resulting in a 1-2 final. Members of both teams fell to the ground in shear exhaustion after the lengthy 90 minutes of play and forcing a late start for the women.
Goalkeeper
Jordan Williams had 10 saves in the contest.
The men will be back at it this weekend for another road game against Fulton-Montgomery on Saturday at 3pm.
