Syracuse, NY- Onondaga Community College had the great pleasure of hosting the NJCAA Women's Lacrosse National Championship this weekend. Our own Lazers entered the tournament as the #3 seed and faced off against Anne Arundel for the third time this season in the Semi-Finals. The Lazers used a strong second half to pull away from the RiverHawks and won the game 22-15.
Natalie Clere had a brilliant performance accounting for 12 of the Lazers goals with 5 goals and 7 assists on the day. Guiliana Portolesi had 12 saves on the day to complete a strong defensive effort.
In the championship game the Lazers battled the Fighting Owls of Harford. The Lazers started the game strong scoring the first 3 goals of the contest. Harford made a run shortly afterwords and took a 10-6 lead into halftime. After a lightning delay play resumed and the teams went back and forth throughout the second half but the Lazers could not get the stops when needed. This ultimately led to Harford winning the championship 19-14.
Trysten Burns won Offensive MVP of the Tournament while
Natalie Clere,
Giuliana Portolesi, and
Julianna Barton joined her on the All-Tournmanet Team.
Under first year Head Coach,
Erik Mattox, the Lazers end the season as the National Champion Runner-Ups, Region III Champions, and a 6-3 record.
