The Onondaga Community College men's tennis team won its first match of the season as Onondaga dropped host Mohawk Valley Community College, 6-3, on Wednesday evening in Utica.
With the win, Onondaga climbs to 1-6 on the year while the Hawks falls to 0-1.
Matthew McCall posted a convincing win at first singles, capturing eight of nine points while
Darren Pikul bested his opponent, 8-5, at third singles.Â
Benjamin Jones and
Marc Rich rounded out the scoring in singles play for the Lazers winning at fourth and sixth singles, respectively.
The Lazers picked up two more points in doubles play with McCall pairing with
Jon VanKouwenberg for an 8-2 triumph at first doubles and Pikul and Jeff Stone teaming up for a hard-fought 9-7 win at third doubles.
The Lazers will return to the courts at beginning at 9 a.m. on Friday for the Nassau Suffolk Invitational Tournament in Selden.
