The Onondaga Community College men's tennis team won its third straight match as the Lazers downed Mohawk Valley, 7-2, on Thursday at Anthony J. Santaro Park.
The win, which marked the second time in the last week that the Lazers have beaten Mohawk Valley, pushed Onondaga's overall mark to 4-8 while the Hawks fall to 3-2.
The Lazers earned five of six points in singles competition as
Matthew McCall led things off with a straight-set win at first singles, 6-2, 6-1.
Jon VanKouwenberg followed suit, winning at second singles, 6-2, 6-4 while
Darren Pikul defeated his opponent at third singles, 6-2, 6-1.
Benjamin Jones and
Marc Rich rounded out the scoring in singles play, taking fifth and sixth singles, respectively.
In doubles competition, McCall paired with VanKouwenberg for an 8-6 win at first doubles.Â
Pikul teamed with
Jeffrey Stone earned Onondaga's seventh and final point at third doubles with an 8-4 triumph.
The Lazers will return to action at 1 pm. on Saturday when they duel Herkimer County Community College in Herkimer.
