Melissa Bakowski (Warners/West Genesee) of the nationally-ranked Onondaga Community College women’s basketball team has been named the College’s Female Athlete of the Week after helping lead the Lazers to the NJCAA Region III title game during the week that ended March 1, 2015.

Bakowski was named to the All-Tournament team after averaging 15 points and 13.3 rebounds in the three-game tournament.

The Warners native posted her fourth double-double of the season on Saturday when the Lazers eliminated Jefferson Community College to advance to the title game against nationally-ranked Mohawk Valley.

In the championship game, Bakowski finished with a career-high 26 points to go along with eight boards, however, the Lazers were unable to overcome Mohawk Valley’s hot shooting.

Bakowski put together a fine freshman season, averaging 9.1 points and 7.2 rebounds while starting 31 games at forward.
