Samantha Roberts (North Syracuse/Cicero-North Syracuse) of the nationally-ranked Onondaga Community College women’s basketball team has been named the College’s Female Athlete of the Week after her outstanding performances in three games for the Lazers during the week ending December 7, 2014.
Roberts played a key role in helping Onondaga rebound from their first two losses of the season early in the week by leading the Lazers to a decisive 97-22 victory over Clinton Community College in Allyn Hall Gymnasium. The point guard shot a perfect 4-for-4 from the field while tallying nine points, nine assists, five rebounds and three steals.
Roberts also turned in a strong offensive performance in the Lazers’ 82-65 home defeat to nationally-ranked North Country. She contributed a game-high five assists while also scoring 13 points. The freshman finished with 26 points, 17 assists, 14 rebounds and 5 steals over the course of the week.
On the season, the North Syracuse native ranks second in the region in assists at 6.6 per game while her assist-to-turnover ratio of 3.8 is the best in the region. She is also fourth on the team in scoring with 9.5 points per game and third on the team in steals with 30.
Roberts and the rest of the women’s basketball team will return to action at 3 p.m. on Saturday when they travel to take on host Herkimer Community College.
