Allison Massara (Marcellus/Marcellus) of the Onondaga Community College women’s volleyball team has been named the College’s Female Athlete of the Week after several outstanding performances during the week that concluded on October 12, 2014.
Massara combined to post 20 kills, 53 digs and 13 service aces as the Lazers went 4-3 last week including a third-place finish at the annual Cara Bryant Memorial Volleyball Tournament in Onondaga’s Allyn Hall.
Massara notched double-digit digs three times last week including an 11 dig performance in a straight-set win over Corning Community College that marked Onondaga’s sixth win in Mid-State Athletic Conference (MSAC) play, earning the Lazers the right to host the conference tournament on October 25.
At the Cara Bryant Tournament, the Marcellus native clubbed five kills to go along with 13 digs and a pair of aces in a hard-fought three-set loss to SUNY Broome before registering three kills and 12 digs in a win over Finger Lakes.
Massara would notch a team-best five service aces along with eight digs in a win over the Hornets on Saturday as the Lazers advanced to the semifinal round.
Massara and the rest of the women’s volleyball team will return to action on Saturday when they face Erie, Niagara and Jamestown, respectively, at the Jefferson Community College POD in Watertown.
